Director of Member Relations


Status: Reports to the CEO. Position is full-time exempt, located in the St. Paul office. Occasional travel required.

About INFRA: Independent Natural Food Retailers Association (INFRA) is a purchasing cooperative owned and governed by natural and organic food retailers of all sizes working together to forge a sustainable future. INFRA facilitates member collaboration to strengthen independents' position in the marketplace.

Summary: The Director of Member Relations’ primary function is to oversee the Member Relations team. This includes team members working in the field directly with INFRA members on continuous improvement. Secondarily, this position will manage and develop systems that engage members in continuous improvement through the use of INFRA programs. Responsible for membership recruiting and onboarding.

Essential Functions:

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Ensure performance of Member Relations Team both in the home office and remote employees
  • Approve work plans for Member Relations Team and ensure all set clear, measurable goals which can be evaluated during annual performance reviews 
  • Support the execution of these goals through regular discussions and follow through
  • Manage team meeting preparations, including agendas and minutes
  • Provide advice, problem solving, and referral to available resources for members within the Association

Member Relations

  • Develop strong, direct relationships between INFRA and its members
  • Direct membership recruiting and onboarding, including Associate Retail Program
  • Facilitate the management of in-person meetings of the membership in collaboration with INFRA team
  • Provide a smooth transition for new members through coordinated efforts with the INFRA team
  • Work with Region Managers and Retail Services team to manage and execute store-level improvement projects
  • Provide leadership to continually increase member participation in INFRA programs
  • Identify and propose programs using a consensus-based member-involved process
  • Develop programs to include timelines, budgets, goals, and expected outcomes
  • Lead the Operational Support Program:
    • Manage the requirements and participation in the program
    • Engage members with in-store visits, work plans, and outcomes
    • Produce an ongoing line of communication for support

General INFRA

  • Provide program reports to CEO
  • Facilitate Membership Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Work with INFRA staff to generate annual calendar of regional activities
  • Manage pilot group program launches in collaboration with INFRA CEO and staff
  • Prepare and propose annual budget and annual work plan for Member Relations
  • Attend INFRA’s regular staff and organizational meetings
  • All other duties as assigned by the CEO
  • Participate actively and constructively as a member of the INFRA Leadership Team

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • At least 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of project management experience
  • Supervisory experience of a remote field team
  • Experience in grocery retail preferred
  • Experience with consensus building
