Director of Member Relations

Status: Reports to the CEO. Position is full-time exempt, located in the St. Paul office.  Travel required.

About INFRA: Independent Natural Food Retailers Association (INFRA) is a purchasing cooperative owned and governed by natural and organic food retailers of all sizes working together to forge a sustainable future. INFRA facilitates member collaboration to strengthen independents' position in the marketplace.

Summary: The Director of Member Relations’ primary function is to serve on the Leadership Team while overseeing Retail Services.  The Retail Services Team includes team members in the St. Paul office and in the field. The Director manages and develops systems collaboratively across the organization which engage members in continuous improvement using INFRA programs.  Supports membership growth.

Essential Functions:

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Actively participate as a member of the INFRA Leadership Team, working cooperatively and constructively with other Directors to set and accomplish INFRA goals
  • Ensure maximum performance of Retail Services Team in the home office and in the field
  • Approve work plans for Member Relations Team based on INFRA strategic priorities and ensure clear, measurable goals are set which can be evaluated quarterly
  • Support the execution of these goals through regular discussions, quarterly reviews, and follow through
  • Manage team meetings, providing clear guidance and expectations
  • Provide advice, problem solving, and referral to available resources for members within the Association
  • Fully participate in organization’s planning and budget process with Leadership Team

Member Relations

  • Develop strong, direct relationships between INFRA and its members
  • Direct membership recruiting and onboarding, including Associate Retail Program
  • Facilitate the management of in-person meetings of the membership in collaboration with INFRA team
  • Provide a smooth transition for new members through coordinated efforts with the INFRA team
  • Work with Region Managers and Retail Services Team to manage and execute store-level improvement projects
  • Provide leadership to continually increase member participation in INFRA programs
  • Identify and propose programs using a consensus-based, member-involved process
  • Develop programs to include timelines, budgets, goals, and expected outcomes
  • Lead the Operational Support Program:
    • Manage the requirements and participation in the program
    • Engage members with in-store visits, work plans, and outcomes
    • Produce an ongoing line of communication for support

General INFRA

  • Provide regular reports to CEO and Leadership Team
  • Facilitate Membership Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Work with INFRA staff to generate annual calendar of regional activities
  • Manage pilot group program launches in collaboration with INFRA Leadership Team and staff
  • Actively manage department and organization budgets
  • Attend INFRA’s regular staff and organizational meetings
  • All other duties as assigned by the CEO

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • At least 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of project management or association experience
  • Supervisory experience of a field team
  • Experience in grocery retail preferred
  • Experience with consensus building
