Fresh Team Manager


Status: Reports to the Director of Purchasing. Position is full-time exempt with a flexible schedule, located in the St. Paul office. Travel required.

About INFRA: Independent Natural Food Retailers Association (INFRA) is a network of independent retailers of all sizes working together to strengthen our position in the natural foods industry. INFRA builds strategic alignment among its members to provide peer support for retailers; identify and implement best practices; and facilitate collaboration in the areas of purchasing and marketing.

Summary: The Fresh Team Manager’s primary function is to serve on the management team, supervise the fresh team and support the development of the INFRA Fresh Department to meet the needs and growth of INFRA members. This includes program exploration, development, implementation or improvement in areas of fresh to include: food service, produce, meat & seafood, culinary, cheese, and bakery.

Essential Functions:

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Actively participate as a member of the INFRA Management Team, working cooperatively and constructively with INFRA Leadership to set and accomplish INFRA goals
  • Ensure maximum performance of Fresh Team
  • Approve work plans for Fresh Team, along with Director, based on INFRA strategic priorities and ensure clear, measurable goals are set which can be evaluated quarterly
  • Support the execution of these goals through regular discussions, quarterly reviews, and follow-through
  • Make recommendations on strategic priorities, projects and development based on industry conditions, membership, and market trends
  • Manage team meetings, providing clear guidance and expectations
  • Provide advice, problem solving, and referral to available resources for members within the Association
  • Fully participate in organization’s planning with Leadership Team

Fresh Team Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and grow Fresh programs for INFRA retail members, taking into consideration the diverse range of businesses while using a consensus-based, member-involved process
  • Create and manage assigned program activities and schedules while monitoring programs and tracking progress
  • Work with Region Managers, Retail Services and Fresh Team to manage and execute store-level improvement projects
  • Contribute to Program Rollout process in collaboration with other departments
  • Work with INFRA team to track INFRA member participation in programs
  • Attend various department meetings acting as liaison between departments
  • Keep apprised and knowledgeable of all INFRA programs products, and tools
  • Develop programs to include timelines, budgets, goals, and expected outcomes
  • Lead the Fresh Operational Support Program:
    • Engage members with in-store visits, work plans, and outcomes
    • Produce an ongoing line of communication for support

General INFRA

  • Provide regular reports to Director of Purchasing
  • Work with INFRA staff to support annual calendar of regional activities
  • Manage pilot group program launches in collaboration with INFRA Leadership Team and staff
  • Attend INFRA’s regular staff and organizational meetings
  • All other functions as needed to support the profitability, values, and mission of INFRA

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • At least 5+ years of overall professional experience, ideally natural food industry
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in natural food retail - fresh departments preferred
  • Experience with consensus building
  • High level of Mac, PC, and IT proficiency
